Recipe Idea: Peach and Basil Juleps

One of our favorite bloggers of all time, Emma Dime, shared her recipe for a Peach and Basil Julep  on her blog that we must try. To say it looks yummy is an understatement! The mix of basil, homemade nectar and bourbon almost make us want to run home early and put together the beautiful concoction. Cheers to Monday and double cheers to tasty drinks!

Homemade Peach Nectar :
Select peaches that are somewhat soft to the touch and have a pretty fragrant smell. This indicates ripeness. Firm peaches won’t be ripe enough to provide the sweetness needed for a good nectar. Boil enough water in a stock pot to be able to submerge the peaches. Dip each peach into the boiling water until the skin begins to loosen. Remove from the boiling water and place in ice cold water to stop the cooking process. Peel the peaches, remove the pit and cut into slices. Combine 2-3 cups sliced peaches and 1 cup water in a blender. Liquefy until smooth. Strain the liquefied peaches through a sieve. Store the nectar in a sealed jar or bottle in the refrigerator until ready to use. Note : If you want to keep the peach remnants in the drink – don’t strain it. This yields a thicker more smoothie like texture.
Simple Syrup infused with Basil :
Bring 1 cup water / 1 cup sugar / and 15 basil sprigs to a boil. Stir until the sugar has dissolved then let the mixture cool. Store the syrup in a sealed jar or bottle in the refrigerator until ready to use.
The Drink :
Fill cup with crushed ice ( we used one large ice cube )
Add 2 Tbsp syrup
1/4 cup of Bourbon
Stir in 5.5oz. of peach nectar
Garnish with basil sprigs & peach wedges

Perfect Summer Sandals

I spent the last week visiting friends in both Chicago and New York City! What a trip! Luckily I was accompanied by some great shoes that kept my feet comfortable during all my adventures. The IRIS has quickly become my new favorite summer sandal! My first stop was Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago where the days were hot and rainy, luckily these sandals have a patent leather bottom which makes is easy to clean off the mud. Then I jetted off to New York City where I spent my days strolling the city streets and the comfy soles of these sandals made it easy for me to walk for hours.

What sandals have you been living in this summer?

Inspiration Board: Rock and Roll

True fashionistas defy labels. Our style changes depending on our mood, the weather, what we read in the magazine or other forms of inspiration. Why must you feel the need to slap a label on us? Throw us in some claustrophobic category? A true fashionistas style oscillates. Duh.

Since we're feeling a little rebellious, a lot more rock and roll today, we channeled all that angst into a post. We're really feeling this new line of graphic tees from Corner Shop which can be found online at Urban Outfitters.

Shop the Look: Going Green

Being green isn't just a fad, it's a lifestyle. We've always felt that way, but sadly, it was the increased strange weather patterns and alerts of hazards that have placed the environment to be top of mind. More so, it has inspired us to be an even more active voice in this culture of change. To be a little more environmentally conscious every day, and not just on days when the quirky weather man warns us all of what's to come. Because shoes are another important piece of our DNA, we decided to use our reinvigorated passion for the Earth to spark a style post. Green inspired, environmentally sound and completely en vogue.

Get The Look: Parisian Chic

Choupette is the newest addition to Karl Lagerfeld's fashionable family, the longtime Creative Director of Chanel is not only in love with the sweet Siamese, he has made her into a fashion icon and expert. She's probably the cutest, and arguably most popular, Siamese kitten that has hit the haute couture fashion scene in ages. The little minx has an impressive Twitter following at 3,617, loves her iPad and has coined the slogan that "Chanel is my catnip". We are obsessed to say the least. The little protege has even inspired us to style a look that we think even Choupette would  consider wearing on the streets of Paris. x

Trend Board: Pretty Pastels

This year was lit aflame with neon hues and fluorescent brights. While we're still big fans of the statement colors, there's a new trend approaching and it's not as loud. The Spring 2012 runway shows were painted with subtle, muted and elegant soft pastels and pale shadows. They reminded us of sorbets, Easter eggs, Jordanian almonds and weddings. Since we can't go cold turkey and ditch the neon just yet, we suggest mixing and matching some of your old pieces with your new pastel additions to the closet.

Get Prepped: Fourth of July Inspiration Board

One of our favorite holidays in the world is the Fourth of July, and not just because it gives us another excuse to bedazzle our nails, down a beer and wear polka dot minis. Independence Day brings families and friends together to celebrate the stars and stripes, and that is something for which we're truly grateful for. Be festive tomorrow and show off all that red, white and blue in style, comfort and class. To help get you into the spirit, we put together an inspiration board to keep you en vogue for the holiday. xx
