femme du jour: Charlotte Gainsbourg

Lately our office playlist has consisted of Charlotte Gainsbourg's 2010 album IRM on repeat. It's the perfect thing to make the day breeze by. So as a thank you to Charlotte for keeping our ears happy, we're dedicating our next style icon post to her.

The daughter of French musical icon Serge Gainsbourg and beautiful english actress Jane Birkin, Charlotte obviously grew up in a creative and musical environment. Charlotte embodies the casual beauty and understated glamour we've come to expect from classic French beauties. She won us over on screen, starring alongside Gael Garcia Bernal in Michel Gondry's beautiful Science of Sleep, and playing Bob Dylan's jilted lover in I'm Not There. Lately, however, she's been wowing us with her musical prowess, working closely with Beck to record both her first album, 5:55 and last year's release, IRM.

Get Charlotte's carefree Parisian chic with faded skinny jeans, oversized boyfriend shirts, and ladylike loafers.

new music we love: Lana Del Rey

The internet is just buzzing about Lana Del Rey, and we can see why. Lana Del Rey is actually the alias of Brooklyn-based musician Lizzy Grant. Her songs are sexy and moody, reminding us of our favorite songstresses of the past like Fiona Apple, Cat Power and Tori Amos.

The video for her newest single, Video Games, is a collection of pop cultural images that will leave you feeing melancholy and nostalgic. Check it out below, we have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of Lana Del Rey in the future.

Blues & Creams.

Inspired by our very own APOSTROPHE kitten heels in quintessential navy; we built this look around the late summer transition into early fall. (yes, we are already almost in September).

There's nothing better to cure the end of summer blues, than an amazing outfit to get the new season started. A conversation-piece Mirco Giovanni lightweight sweater matches perfectly with a subtle camouflage Opening Ceremony cotton mini-skirt. Vintage-esque Lizzie Fortunato leather and crystal earrings matched with a tasseled O.S.P Osprey day to evening bag round out this ensemble.

Oh the places you can go wearing this...

Lunch at The Farm

Today I headed over to The Farm of Beverly Hills for a quick lunch with my friend and fellow blogger Kim. Since the weather in Los Angeles has been perfect lately, I thought this was the perfect excuse to pull out my new sun hat and Mother of Pearl heels. It turns out she has the same shoes in mint! Clearly, great minds shop alike.

If you're ever on the west side and looking for a quick bite, The Farm is known for their locally sourced and organic ingredients. They also have quite a selection of baked goods and desserts, which all looked very tempting.

we're so pleased to introduce you to...

our newest contributor, guest blogger Holly Wang. We met Holly at the shop opening party for our dear friends The Loved One, and we knew instantly that we would be friends. Plus, it didn't hurt that she was wearing Seychelles. Holly is a blogoholic, writing her personal blog, Isolation and Happenings, and also posting as the Los Angeles contributor to one of our favorite blogs, Certain Ladies.

Holly will be writing for us every other Thursday, so check back tomorrow for her first post!

The Perfect Color?

We are mildly (actually fully) obsessed with rose gold and we figured what better way to pay homage to this perfect color, than to build an outfit around it featuring our brand new AMAZING Ampersand retro heels.

It's Friday and the weekend is calling. These shoes (and outfit) would make the perfect look for a late Summer party. Go for it.

Letterpress Love.

(courtesy of Wall & Deco)

Letterpress has been around since the 15th century and like many things of olde, is not the standard form of printing anymore. With that said, many artisans and graphic designers still use it and seek to continue building it's relevance. (we fall into this category)

Many of us don't even know the true process of how it works and while exploring Enhance the Everyday, Pia Jane Bijkerk's blog, I found this video and thought what a beautiful way of explaining this art form.

NYC cycling gets chic

This upcoming NY Fashion Week (September 8-15) designers are going green without compromising style. In honor of the Fashion Center Business Improvement District's new bicycle campaign, top designers such as Diane Von Furstenburg, Cynthia Rowley and Isaac Mizrahi will be giving out custom designed rental bicycles to travel between shows. A collaboration with Bowery Lane Bicycles, the bikes are handmade by vintage-inspired specialists. These sort of designer wheels usually come with price tags as high as $17,000, so you better jump on this chance to pedal through Manhattan on a rental Gucci or Fendi bike (even if it's just for one afternoon).
